How to play Ice Fishing
Five bets, a 10-second window and one rule that costs newcomers money. Here is the whole game in order.
§ 01 A round, step by step
Choose your route
Leaf 1 and Leaf 2 are the steady bets, 23 segments each. Lil’ Blues, Big Oranges and Huge Reds are the bonus routes. All Bonuses covers the three fish in one click.
Place chips inside the window
You have roughly 10 to 15 seconds. You can back several routes at once, and most players do.
Watch the multiplier drop
After betting closes the RNG boosts random segments. Boosted segments light up before the spin, so you can see what is in play.
The wheel resolves
A leaf result pays immediately. A fish result opens the matching bonus round for anyone holding that bet.
Read the payout carefully
1:1 returns your stake and the same again. Any multiplier result pays the multiplier and keeps your stake. This is the single most misread rule in the game.
§ 02 The five routes, side by side
| Bet | Segments | Pays | RTP | House edge | Hits roughly |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Leaf 1 | 23 / 53 | 1:1, or 3x–10x boosted | 97.10% | 2.90% | 43.4% of rounds |
| Leaf 2 | 23 / 53 | 1:1, or 3x–10x boosted | 97.10% | 2.90% | 43.4% of rounds |
| Lil’ Blues | 4 / 53 | 3x – 100x | 95.69% | 4.31% | 1 round in 13 |
| Big Oranges | 2 / 53 | 4x – 200x | 95.60% | 4.40% | 1 round in 27 |
| Huge Reds | 1 / 53 | 10x – 500x | 95.17% | 4.83% | 1 round in 53 |
Leaf 1 and Leaf 2 are mathematically identical. Backing both does not double your coverage in any useful way — it simply spreads the same 86.8% of the wheel across two chips, and the two routes never both win.
Bonus routes are one-way tickets: you only enter a bonus round if you had a bet on that exact route. Watching a Huge Reds land while your chip sits on Lil’ Blues is the standard Ice Fishing experience.
§ 03 How multipliers actually work
There are two separate multiplier systems, and confusing them is why the payout maths surprises people.
Leaf boosts
Before the spin, one or more leaf segments can be assigned 3x, 4x, 5x, 7x or 10x. If the wheel stops on your boosted leaf, you are paid that multiple — and your stake is kept. A 10x boost is therefore a 9:1 net win, not 10:1.
Wheel multipliers on fish
Fish segments can be assigned 2x to 10x. This does not multiply your stake — it multiplies every fish value inside the bonus round. A 10x on Huge Reds turns the smallest 10x catch into 100x and the largest 500x catch into 5,000x. This is the only path to the game’s advertised ceiling.
Try the multiplier maths without money
The simulator applies both systems exactly as described, so you can watch the payout logic instead of reading it.
§ 04 Mobile and connection
Ice Fishing streams in HTML5 with no download. A stable 5 Mbps connection keeps the video clean; below about 2 Mbps the stream drops resolution to protect the round timing, which is the right trade-off — the outcome is decided by the RNG, not the video.
On phones the betting panel collapses to a single row of chips. It works well, but the 10-second window is tighter on a small screen: decide your spread before the round opens rather than during it.
